Cambridgeshire Skills retains Matrix Standard accreditation

13 December 2024

Cambridgeshire Skills – Cambridgeshire County Council’s Adult Learning provision - has successfully retained the Matrix Standard, following a comprehensive three-day assessment.

Cambridgeshire Skills offers a wide range of adult education courses focused on building essential skills, including English, Math, Digital Skills, ESOL, Health & Wellbeing, and Personal Development. They provide flexible, accessible learning opportunities for career advancement, personal growth, and confidence building, supporting learners at every level across the county.

Last academic year Cambridgeshire Skills engaged with 3,526 adult learners from across Cambridgeshire with 5,820 course enrolments.

The Matrix Standard is awarded by the Department for Education in recognition of Cambridgeshire Skills delivery of high-quality information, advice, and guidance (IAG) to learners, ensuring they receive exceptional support and direction to allow them to make the next steps and achieve positive outcomes. The assessor provided outstanding feedback, highlighting the enthusiastic testimonials they’d heard from learners and the strong partnership work across the service.

Retaining the Matrix Standard demonstrates Cambridgeshire Skills’ ongoing commitment to delivering an excellent service to learners and provides a framework for continuous improvement.

Cllr Tom Sanderson, chair of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Communities, Social Mobility and Inclusion Committee said: “Retaining the Matrix Standard underlines the value that Cambridgeshire Skills brings to our county’s residents as they continue to deliver meaningful, impactful learning experiences for all.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in this accomplishment, which is testament to your dedication and hard work. Together, you’re opening doors and enhancing opportunities for our community – you’re on the front line of the council’s vision to create a fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire.”

Feedback from learners during the assessment process:

“The tutors explain things well, are very approachable, and relate everything to our lives”

“I have been given an opportunity that I could not afford to pay for. They have provided me with the stepping-stone to a job that I know I can do”

“I felt so valued, so understood, and they have more confidence in me than I did in myself. Everyone was so lovely and helpful; they are like mini cheerleaders”
