The focus of the Family Support and Safeguarding Service is to safeguard and protect children, and young people. The teams work systemically to support families, children and young people to thrive. The teams in Cambridgeshire provide short-term and long-term interventions by:
- Undertaking child protection enquiries
- Supporting families under the Child in Need framework
- Delivering court work during care proceedings, and working with children who come into care (in some cases).
The Family Support and Safeguarding Service work closely with the Assessment Service and Children in Care Service, as well as working in partnership with various other multi-agency professionals to deliver the best support for children and young people in Cambridgeshire.
The Family Support and Safeguarding Service in Cambridgeshire operates across five District areas:
- Huntingdonshire
- Fenland
- Cambridge City
- East Cambridgeshire
- South Cambridgeshire
The Head of Service for this area is Samantha Howlett.
There are three service managers who oversee the nine teams, and they report to the Head of Service. The Service Manager is responsible for the oversight of the work within their district. Teams are made up of:

- Senior Practitioners
- Social Workers
- Child Practitioners
