New secondary school at Alconbury Weald

In 2016, the Department for Education (DfE) confirmed that the application submitted by the Diocese of Ely Multi-Academy Trust (DEMAT) to open a new secondary school to serve the development of Alconbury Weald had been approved to the pre-implementation stage.

The school, known as Alconbury Weald Church Academy, will initially open with 600 places. However, it will be built will core facilities to enable it to expand to 1,200 places. This is in line with housing growth and increased pupil numbers. The proposed opening date is September 2027. This is subject to DfE entering into a funding agreement with the school sponsor.

Until this school opens, children living in Alconbury Weald will be included within the catchment area of Sawtry Village Academy.
