Temporary library works

Temporary library works

We’re currently carrying out temporary works to adapt and improve some of our library buildings. This will help to ensure that our libraries meet the changing needs of communities in Cambridgeshire.

The information below provides details on the works that we will be undertaking throughout 2025. This will be updated as new closures are scheduled and completed.

You can also find information below on any alternative provisions in place, such as extended opening hours to neighbouring libraries and additional mobile library stops which have been planned.

Whilst we aim to be as accurate as possible with the dates below, there may be instances where these may change at short notice.

Frequently asked questions

In some circumstances you may still be able to access certain areas of the library whilst work is taking place. Some library buildings however may see a total closure due to the nature of the works planned.

Information on which library buildings will be totally closed or partially open will be detailed above and on the local directory.

You are also welcome to visit any other library in Cambridgeshire where you will be able to find a comparable range of services.

You can view a list of our libraries, and find your next closest library, via the map on our website.

Whilst some of our library buildings are closed, additional mobile library stops will be organised where possible.

Details for additional stops will be available in the table above and via the library page on the local directory.

Each vehicle carries up to 3,000 items of stock, including fiction, non-fiction, large print, books on CD and cassette, and children’s books. Our mobile libraries also stock health and wellbeing resources including free hearing aid batteries, free walking stick ferrules, and reading glasses.

Find a mobile library stop near you.

Where possible, we will place signs in the relevant library building at least 14 days before work is planned to start. Our friendly library staff will be on hand to inform visitors of upcoming closures.

We will also make changes to library opening hours on the local directory.

We will also be posting regular updates on our social media channels and prompting residents to visit our dedicated library works webpage.

All return dates will be extended throughout the closure period; however, items can be returned to any Cambridgeshire library, or Mobile Library should you wish to do so.

You can find libraries near you, or your closest mobile library stop on our website.
